Project Summary
The project was a very complex and risky refurbishment of the hospitals accident and emergency department, along with the resuscitation wards, operating theatres and major trauma wards. The scheme required round the clock working and very sensitive and clean contract management, together with flexibility during no build periods.
Finance Strategy
The project was financed solely by the Cambridge University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust funds.
Project Challenges
The scheme was a traditional procured scheme that required absolute dedication to specification and continued servicing arrangements including back up generators and fail safes throughout the scheme. In addition the dust generated had to be kept to a minimum and there were considerable ‘no build periods’ due to the presence of the sleep clinic at first floor level. The scheme also had a considerable amount of asbestos removal and the programme had to accommodate four phases of internal moves.
